Qualification Challenge First Round
Centennial Invention Exhibition
From observation to thinking, considering the needs of future humanity.
Challenge Brief
Imagine you're a designer tasked with a project for Client Z, under the guidance of your mentor, Noema. Due to a setback with a previous design, you and Noema embark on a journey to the "Centennial Invention Exhibition" to seek inspiration. You will explore what changes have taken place in two objects with same function over the past hundred years.
2024 | Centennial Invention of the Washing Machine
Have you ever wondered how people did their laundry a hundred years ago?
Most homes today have a washing machine. The history of the washing machine has evolved from the need for people to clean clothes. Have you thought about how the washing machine has transformed into the one you see today? Or how alternative methods of washing clothes achieved the goal of cleanliness in the past?
Welcome to the Centennial Washing Machine Exhibition. Join us in exploring how people in the past washed clothes and consider future possibilities that may arise from ongoing technological advancements!
Note: Guidelines are in Chinese.
2023 | Centennial Invention of the Stove
Have you ever wondered how people prepared food a hundred years ago?
The saying goes, "People live on food." The stove gradually became a must-have tool in the kitchen. Have you thought about how the stove has evolved into what you see today? What needs drove the development of stove-related inventions?
Welcome to the Centennial Campfire Exhibition. Join us in exploring how people in the past prepared food and how future advancements might further meet these needs!

2022 | Centennial Invention of the Toaster/Refrigerator
Do you know how people stored food and toasted bread a hundred years ago?
As you prepare to fly off on your mission, a secretive client asks you, “Design me a toaster, refrigerator, and oven.” However, all of your designs get rejected, again and again. Recently, the client wrote another letter: “What I need is a design that wasn’t constrained by the past century. What kind of intelligence would be needed in the future? You see, a designer starts by thinking of future needs before creating a design!”
Welcome to the Centennial Toaster/Refrigerator Exhibition. Explore how people in the past stored food and toasted bread and consider the innovations necessary to solve future needs!
